Pokemon X and Y Walkthrough: Lumiose City
<- Route 4 Walkthrough Index Route 5 ->

Lumiose City is very big, but you can't explore all of it yet because of a blackout. The camera is now on the same level as your character, which can be disorienting. The easiest way to move around the city is by using the roller skates because the camera will follow behind you. Follow Sina to Professor Sycamore's Pokemon Lab.

Inside the lab, go to the second floor to get some Luxury Balls from a female Scientist. Luxury Balls increase the happiness of the Pokemon caught. Go to the third floor to meet Professor Sycamore. The female scientist will give you TM 54 False Swipe if you've seen enough Pokemon so far. For reference, I had seen 36 Pokemon by this point. False Swipe is very useful for catching Pokemon because it always leave the target with at least 1 HP. Talk with the professor to start a battle against the three Kanto starting Pokemon.

After the battle, he offers you one of the three Pokemon he used. Once you choose, he also gives you a stone that will Mega Evolve that Pokemon when the time comes. He tells you to go to Camphrier Town to investigate Mega Evolution. You'll meet Lysandre when you go back to the first floor. He has red hair and speaks of a desire for a more beautiful world.

Once you exit the lab you'll be able to explore about half of Lumiose. There are Lumi taxi cabs around the city that will let you quickly travel to where you want to go. It's usually much easier to use a cab than to try to navigate through the city on your own. Shauna is waiting for you outside of the PR Video Studio. Inside, you can customize a quick video that other players can watch online.

Restaurant Le Nah offers double battles. For $3,000 you get a total of three battles with the restaraunt's chef. the owner will give you Tiny Mushrooms as a reward if you complete the battles.

Vernal Avenue:
The Ore shop on Vernal Avenue has an old man that is trying to sell his Charizardite X for $1,000,000. On the more realistic side, the clerk is selling Fire, Water, and Leaf Stones. On the same side of the avenue is a store that sells herbal medicine, a Furfrou grooming parlor, and a Furfrou cafe. The opposite side of Vernal Avenue has another cafe and a fashion boutique that only lets stylish people shop there.

Before you can leave the city, you need to meet with your rival at Cafe Soleil. Inside, you'll see Lysandre talking with the movie star Diantha. They have an odd conversation before leaving. The office building across the street from Cafe Soleil is a place where they study how to catch Pokemon. A woman on the first floor gives the Quick Claw. It makes the Pokemon holding it attack first some of the time. Two men on the second floor give away Quick Balls and Timer Balls, which are more effective the shorter or longer a battle has elapsed, respectively.

When you're done exploring the city, go to the Route 5 gate. Mr. Bonding is waiting inside to tell you the magic of O-Powers, which have a wide assortment of different effects that you can use for a brief period of time. For example, they can be used to increase a stat during battle or decrease the price of items at a Poke Mart. Now you can enter Route 5.
