EX: Ruby & Sapphire - Mightyena (Holo)

PokeAmph
70 HP:
Fairly good amount of HP for a Stage 1. It could be better, but that isn't how it turned out. It is very workable; Gold Berry will work the majority of the time, as will Focus Band on any other Pokemon ;)

Intimidating Fang:
This is one of the better Poke Body in EX! For one thing, this prevents the attacks that do 10 damage to all of your Benched Pokemon! It's even like a mini Defender for Mightyena when he is active. Since it applies before Weakness and Resistence, if a base Hitmonchan uses Jab it will only do 20 damage instead of 40! That saves you 20 damage! (Poke Body reduces it to 10, then it is doubled)

Shakedown:
Once again, this is a great attack. You can get a possible 40 damage on the second turn, with a DCE. On top of doing 40/50 damage on turn 2, you have a 50/50 chance of discarding a random card from your opponents hand. It is like a Rockets Sneak attack every other turn, except in this case, they discard their card, not shuffle it in their deck!

Poochyena:
Which Mightyena should you use? The choices are; EX:RS (40HP), EX:RS (50HP), EX:RS (Shadow Bind). Out of all those, the best is definatly the 50 HP with Knock off and Rear Kick! Knock off lets you do the same thing as Shakedown for a (D) Energy, but doesn't do damge. Its next attack is Rear Kick for (C)(C), and does 20 damage. With this Poochyena, you can pull of a pretty good combo; First turn attach a DCE to Poochyena, then Evolve next turn and attach a Darknes...or vice versa.

Bottom Stats:
Now Darkness Pokemon have a Fighting Weakness for some reason. Doesn't hurt much since Fighting decks have kinda went away a while back, but there will always be some out there. Psychic resistence is typical, and is never a bad thing. Retreat is only 1, and is not a big hassle. If you have a spare Energy in your hand, then just slap it down and retreat. As always, I advise using a Switch or two in pretty much all decks.

Combos:
Rocket's Sneak Attack: You can make a disruption themed deck with Mightyena. You could also use RSA, see all the cards in your opponents hand, shuffle the Trainer in, then you will know what cards there are, and where they are (unless they switch the cards around).

Rockets Trap: Pretty Self explanitory, make it so the opponent shuffles 3 cards in, then use Shakedown. In other words, slim their hand down to as little of a hand as possible.

Standard: 8 / 10
With all the Energy Removal out there, you would have to use Eco Gym to save your Energy, but it won't save DCE. You might want to use No Removal Gym.

Modified: 7 / 10
I think Mightyena will do good in this format. It will do very good if you can get it set on turn 2. But if your opponent gets their big hitter up, you might be done. Try to get multiple Mightyena out.

See you next week!

Ah, Mightyena! Well, looking the card over, it has some obvious strong points. 70 HP is pretty normal, I guess, for Stage 1's. Also, I always liked Jungle Persian's Pounce attack, which, roughly, does 30 damage and reduced the opponent's attack by 10 damage (for 3 Colorless Energy). Mightyena's Poke Body is basically the same thing .. Without the damage, but it can still be helpful. Because of the 10-reduced damage, Berry or Gold Berry might work with it. Its only attack, Shakedown, is pretty good. Again, this card reminds me very much of Jungle Persian. Shakedown normally would do 40 damage, but 50 because of the one Darkness Energy it needs to use it. You could use more Darkness Energy to power it up, or use a Double Colorless, so you could possibly get it going quickly. Cleffa might help with it. I'm not sure if it would do too well as the main Pokemon in a deck, but it could have potential.
