Heart Gold and Soul Silver - Rival Battles Heart Gold and Soul Silver: Rival Battles As with any Pokemon game, you have a Rival in Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Throughout your adventure you will find him and have a chance to battle him. As always, your rival picks the Pokemon that has a strength against the Pokemon you chose.

Battle #1: Cherrygrove City This battle happens after you get the Pokemon egg from Mr. Pokemon and you head back to New Bark Town.

Battle #2: Azalea Town After you have defeated Team Rocket in Slowpoke's Well and have defeated Bugsy your Rival will stop you for a battle as you try to head west into the Ilex Forest.

Battle #3: Burned Tower After you enter the Burned Tower, your rival will be waiting for you by the ladder.

Battle #4: Goldenrod Underground Your rival will battle you right when you enter the basement.

Battle #5: Victory Road He appears at the end of Victory Road. Be sure to heal your Pokemon before initiating the battle.

Battle #6: Mt. Moon When you first enter Mt. Moon your rival will ask for a battle.

Battle #7: Dragon's Den If you go back to the Dragon's Den near Blackthorn City you will actually have the chance to battle with your rival against Lance and Clair.

Battle #8: Pokemon League After going through all of the previous battles your rival will battle you at the Pokemon League every Monday and Wednesday.
