Ampharos's Pokemon Power is simply amazing!. It enables any benched Pokemon to send their Basic Energy to the active, wether it is electric or grass etc. It is one of the best out there now. And since his attack says that he only has to discard electric energy attached to him, you can have a DCE and only have to discard 2 energy to do 80 damage. 80 damage on turn 3 isn't bad...like a R's Zapdos except not as good of a chance. Which brings me to the fact that it combos up with Rocket's Zapdos very nicely, and R's Zapdos takes out Gligar, Hitmonchan, and Tyrouge who Ampharos is weak to. Standard: 8.5 Nearly immune to ER and SER, which is a huge advantage in this format. And with this Power it lets him retreat with ease! But he can be Tyrouge'd... Modified: 6.5 He is probably to slow to have any effect in this format. Kigdra is really fast, as well as Magcargo, and there are always a few tyrouges out there that can tear you appart 0.o. Ampharos takes to long to get powered up, unless you just want to power other people up... See ya next week

Ampharos - Expedition At first look, this card is mediocre at best. Much like the Neo3 Raichu. Then, however, you read the Pokémon Power. Acting like a limited Energy Trans, it would allow you to fire off a few 80-damage Lighting Strikes, one turn right after the other. Not bad at all. This will take down most anything, as Chansey has shown for a long time, but this time it doesn't have a massive drawback, like 80 points of self-damage. Some of the interesting combos you could have with this card include Double-Colorless Energy...be dealing up to 80, on turn three! Also, it wouldn't be discarded when you go for a big hit, meaning you only need to "Energy Connect" two Electric up to Amphy and you're good to go. Another good mix would be to toss in the Neo3 Ampharos, which draws energy out of the deck, and puts it on the benched Pokémon. Rocket Zapdos would be needed to cover the nasty Fighting Weakness (watch out for Tyrogue and Hitmonchan), but it would also help as it can recover energy from the discard Pile.
