Heal up at the Pokemon Center if you need to. Head towards Alder to the east. He talks to you when you approach and then goes north. The house east of the Pokemon Center has an old man that gives you a Potion. There is nothing in the other house. Head for Alder to the north, where he is waiting on top of some stairs. He talks a little bit before deciding to block the way to the dirt battle area. Follow the road northeast to Route 20.
