Episode 087: Shell Shocked

Ash and his pals go to a Pokemon theater show, where it looks like the Pokemon can speak! Togepi sneaks off again and goes backstage. Misty, Ash and Tracy follow it backstage, and find that there are actually actors voicing the Pokemon as they move their mouths! A girl named Kay finds them backstage and compliments Ash and Pikachu on their closeness. The show closes with a dance, and Kay calls her Pokemon Raichu to go out and join the others, but Raichu refuses... it seems very sad. As the show moves on down the river, Ash and the others hitch a ride. One of the cast asks Ash to help Kay out with understanding her Raichu, since he seems to have a wonderful relationship with his Pikachu. Little do they know that Team Rocket is close behind them. Ash talks to Kay, but he is just saying the things Brock used to say to Ash. Kay tries to get Raichu to perform, but Raichu just gets scared and almost shocks Kay. Later on, as night falls, Kay tells Ash that on the day she and Raichu met, Raichu accidentally shocked her and from then on she was scared that it will shock her like the day they met. Raichu can feel that she is scared and gets nervous around her. Suddenly, Team Rocket rocks the boat with a torpedo and sends Raichu flying. Kay catches Raichu and Raichu shocks her. Kay keeps holding onto Raichu until he calms down. Team Rocket hops on board and threatens to blow up the boat unless everyone listens to them. Team Rocket ties everyone up and prepares to steal all the Pokemon. The actors manage to sneak off behind Team Rocket and signal the Pokemon to start their act. Voicing as the Pokemon, the actors tell Team Rocket to get lost, while Meowth gets sentimental about how he learned to talk. Ash and the others manage to get loose and Pikachu and Marril blast Team Rocket. Kay find Raichu cowering in a corner. Kay tells Raichu she isn't scared anymore, and Raichu hugs her. Pikachu and Raichu shock Team Rocket off the ship and send them blasting off again. It seems all is well and Ash and the others get off at the next port, but one of the actors has lost his voice. They are about to cancel the show, but Raichu encourages Kay to take his place. Raichu and Kay open the show, as well as Pikachu with Ash voicing him, as he comments that it's hard to match Pikachu's lips as he speaks.
