Episode 086: Shell Shocked

Ash and the rest are riding on Lapras when a couple of speedboats zoom by, almost knock them off, and continue onto a huge island. The group decides to follow and see what the big rush is. When they reach the island, they find a TV crew reporting on a fossil find. A Kabuto fossil was found washed up on a beach, and scientists decided that the origin of the fossil was from the island. And the foreperson for the excavation project is none other than Nurse Joy! Ash and Tracy volunteer to help in the dig, while Team Rocket is spying on them from their sub. As the archeologists and the kids make their way to the excavation point, something seems to be trying to drive them away. When they finally reach their destination, giant boulders rain down on them. Pikachu spots a shadow in the distance, and he and Ash chase a shadowy figure. When they finally confront the figure, they find it was a strange man who had been trying to drive them away. The man tells Joy and the others that the Kabuto fossils can't be disturbed, because according to an old legend, disturbing them could cause massive destruction. Before he can convince them further, however, an attendent rushes up and tells the group that they have found a fossil. They enter a cave and discover that the entire cave is covered with Kabuto fossils! As the man continues to warn them not to disturb the fossils, Team Rocket bursts through the roof and scoops up the fossils in a net. But as the moonlight comes through the hole and shines on the fossils, the Kabuto come to life! The entire island begins to shake and shudder, while the Kabuto send Team Rocket blasting off again. Joy figures the island is sinking because the entire island is built up on a huge pile of Kabuto fossils. There is no time to get to the other side of the island to the boats, so the strange man tells them to build a raft. They do and board it quickly. Lapras pulls them all out to sea just in time; the entire island sinks into the ocean and the Kabuto swim off into the ocean.
