Episode 058: The Misty Mermaid

Returning back to Viridian City, Misty finds that Horsea is feeling a little depressed. Brock suggests that Horsea needs a bigger place to swim other than the small water fountains they've been using and they should go to the Cerulean Gym. Misty agrees and the team heads toward Misty's old gym. Once there, they find a poster out front advertising an underwater show featuring a returning performer. Misty's sisters come out to greet her. Gradually, they inform Misty that SHE is the returning performer the poster was advertising about. Misty refuses to perform, but Violet, Lily and Daisy tell her that their water show has done poorly lately and this is the only way they can attract business. Misty is reluctant, but agrees to help them out. Her sisters tell her the story of the show they will perform. Misty will play a Mermaid princess, while Violet and Lily play the pirates who will try to rob her of her water Pokemon and Daisy will play the dashing prince. The day of the show, a huge crowd forms out front and the house is totally sold out (like, totally!). Brock and Ash take their seats in the audience as the show starts. A giant glass water tank rises out of the floor, so the audience can see all the action. Misty, dressed as a mermaid, dives into the pool, and begins to perform with her Horsea, Starmie and a school of Goldeen. Misty manages to stay underwater the whole time using hidden air pockets and miniature oxygen tanks. Backstage, Violet and Lily prepare to go on, when they are jumped by (who else) Jessie and James! Team Rocket plots to steal the water Pokemon in the pool. Jessie and James steal Violet and Lily's costumes and appear on the diving platform. Ash and Brock recognize who they are (about time they see past those disguises, huh?) and rush backstage to stop them. Jessie and James dive into the pool with miniature air tanks and capture the Goldeen in a net, while Meowth crashes through the roof in the Team Rocket balloon. Misty also realizes who they are, and begins to fight them. Meanwhile, Ash and Brock stop Daisy from going out and dive into the pool instead. They begin to fight Team Rocket, while the audience roars in delight. Daisy's Seel begins to battle Jessie's Arbok, while James's Weezing, being mostly gas, floats and bobs at the surface of the water. During the battle, Seel evolves into a Dewgong, and freezes Team Rocket with its Ice Beam. After getting everyone out of the water, Pikachu shocks Team Rocket and sends them blasting off once again. The show is an instant success, and the sisters shows are sold out for months. As the team heads back towards Viridian City, Misty leaves behind Horsea and Starmie so they can get some exercise at the pool.
